I’ve spent much time researching these topics when designing my own plan and resources needed. My system is a stand alone one which powers up some lights and small battery chargers for my various tools(lawn mowers, drills, weed whacker, leaf blower). My secondary requirement was for back up powere for my refrigerator and freezer when the power goes out. I have a generator but as I discovered, when living in NJ during hurricane Sandy, fuel wasn’t available for over a week so extreme fuel conservation was important. I now live in Florida and hurricane season is always an issue especially living in a rural area.
